How Agency Dancers Are Underpaid in the UK
Agency dancers working the UK corporate circuit are among the most underpaid performers in the events industry. A dancer booked for a corporate gig through a traditional agency will typically receive a flat fee for the performance. The client paid considerably more. Nobody told the dancer.
What the Agency Actually Charges
Traditional entertainment agencies operate on commission models that are rarely disclosed to either party. The agency takes a cut — which can be a substantial share of the client fee — and the performer receives the remainder. There is no legal requirement for the agency to disclose the client rate to the performer, and most don't.
What Does the Dancer Actually Get Paid?
Based on typical agency rates in the UK corporate market:
- Client pays the agency a booking fee per dancer
- Agency pays the dancer a flat fee, lower than the client paid
- Agency keeps the difference as commission, undisclosed
- Travel expenses: rarely covered, absorbed by the dancer
Why Dancers Accept These Rates
Most dancers accept agency rates because they have no visibility of what the client actually paid. Without access to the client rate, there is no basis for negotiation. The agency controls the relationship with the client and the performer has no leverage.
How Direct Booking Changes This
On AnyGig, dancers set their own rate. The hirer pays a flat 5% platform fee on top — disclosed upfront, nothing hidden. The dancer receives 100% of their quoted fee. There is no agency markup, no undisclosed commission, and no ambiguity about what either party is paying or receiving.
Set your own rate. Keep 100% of it.
AnyGig connects dancers directly with corporate hirers. No agency. No hidden commission. Just transparent, protected bookings.
