How to Write a Performer Bio That Gets Bookings
Quick Answer
A performer bio that gets bookings leads with what you do and who you do it for, names specific event types and venues you've worked, states your fee range, and tells the booker exactly what happens next. Most performer bios fail because they describe the performer rather than the outcome for the client. Write for the booker, not for yourself.
Your bio is your sales page. Every word either moves a booker closer to contacting you or gives them a reason to click away. Most performer bios are written like CVs — they describe the performer's history and credentials rather than what the client actually needs to know.
What a Booking Bio Must Answer
- What do you do — in one sentence, no jargon
- What kind of events are you best for — corporate, weddings, festivals, professionally organised events
- What does booking you look like — do you bring your own PA, how long is the set, what do you need from the venue
- Why should they trust you — specific named venues, events, or clients
- What does it cost — or at least a starting price point
- What should they do next — a clear call to action
The Most Common Bio Mistakes
Starting With Your Training History
Bookers don't care where you trained. They care what you can do for their event. Lead with the outcome — "I perform 60-minute close-up magic sets for corporate events across the UK" — not "I trained at [school] and have been performing for 12 years."
Vague Descriptions of Your Performance
"I bring energy and excitement to every event" tells a booker nothing. "I perform two 45-minute sets covering classic rock and pop anthems, self-contained with full PA, suitable for audiences of 50–500" tells them everything they need to make a decision.
No Social Proof
Name specific events, venues, or clients you've worked with. "I've performed at The Dorchester, The Shard, and Glastonbury Festival" is more convincing than "I have extensive experience at prestigious venues."
